Secondary English Language Arts Education
Kate Solway is an aspiring first-year secondary English teacher for grades 7–12. She earned her B.A. in English Education from the University of Rhode Island in the spring of 2025—a place that quickly became a second home to her. However, she has since returned to her roots, beginning her teaching career in her home state of Connecticut, with the hopes of obtaining her Masters of Teaching.
Kate is beyond excited to embark on this journey with the next generation of young adults, guiding them as they explore the beauty and power of English Language Arts. She believes that every student has a story to tell, a unique voice, and passions that deserve to be expressed. Her goal is to help students discover and strengthen their voices through reading, writing, and meaningful discussions.
Kate has developed a deep passion for literature, storytelling, and student engagement, and she looks forward to sharing that passion with every student who steps into her classroom.
In her free time, Kate enjoys writing personal memoirs and poetry—creative writing has always been a meaningful part of her life, and she strives to incorporate its full potential into every aspect of English Language Arts instruction.
During her time studying abroad in Italy in the spring of 2023, Kate developed a love for sculpture and oil painting, among other artistic mediums. That experience deepened her appreciation for creative expression, and travel has since become one of her lifelong goals. She hopes to continue expanding her mind by immersing herself in new cultures and experiences, both personally and professionally.
In the summers, Kate loves boating—having grown up on the water, she has always been drawn to marine adventures. One of her most memorable experiences was a nature tour in Alaska, where she spent a summer exploring its breathtaking landscapes.
On the very first day of class, Kate enjoys sharing her own lifelong goals and personal stories with her students. In return, she values learning about their passions and interests. This exchange of ideas and experiences helps her foster a classroom environment built on curiosity, creativity, and connection.
